Plasma Screen Tvs Are Expensive And Fragile, What Are The Pros Again?
Plasma televisions are much brighter than traditional television screens and have a wider color gamut with picture quality remaining consistently detailed for plasma screens as large as 103 inches diagonally. Plasma screens are typically very thin and as such can be applied in various wall hanging applications.
The disadvantages of plasma televisions are many. They are several times more expensive than traditional and other types of televisions. One of the most surprising disadvantages to many users of plasma televisions is their limited life spans. The typical plasma television has a life span of about 60,000 hours of display time.
Around 60,000 display hours a plasma screen television’s display panels become roughly half as bright and continue to decline over the remaining life of the television set. This first 60,000 hours of display time is considered to contain the full functional lifespan of the television.
Though many studies refer to the 60,000 hour mark, many other people believe that plasma televisions begin to lose their brightness at around 2,000 hours.
Plasma televisions are extremely fragile –so fragile in fact that most plasma TVs must be installed by television professionals. Their fragility makes them nearly impossible to ship as well.
At very high altitudes plasma televisions have been known to produce humming sounds. Some models of plasma screens suffer from polarization or screen burn-in, which can be resolved by setting the television to a static channel.
The disadvantages are so numerous compared to the other kids of televisions that I really don’t know why people spend so much money on them other than to find a flat TV or simply to spend a lot of money on a TV.
